Second suspect arrested in connection with double shooting in Brookfield

Second suspect arrested in connection with double shooting in Brookfield

According to Vermont State Police, the suspect lived in the home where the shooting occurred and faces several charges.

A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the 2023 shooting of two people in Brookfield, Vermont, that left one man dead and another seriously injured. Vermont State Police said Juan Sierra, 27, of Springfield, Massachusetts, died on May 12, 2023, from his injuries following the shooting. Miguel Fuentes, 29, also of Springfield, Massachusetts, was taken to the hospital for his injuries. Sierra’s body was found outside a home on Vermont Route 14. The shooting was drug-related, police said. Police have now arrested Joseph Lumbra, 57, of Brookfield, on several charges. Lumbra is charged with cocaine possession, cocaine trafficking, fentanyl trafficking and conspiracy. Investigators say Lumbra lived in the home where the shooting occurred. The first suspect was arrested last July as he got off a plane in New York City. Devon Dennis, 43, of Hartford, Connecticut, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Sierra. He also faces attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of Fuentes. Dennis was extradited from New York to Vermont last year and appeared in court. Lumbra is currently being held on bail. He is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Thursday.

The first suspect was arrested last July as he stepped off a plane in New York. Devon Dennis, 43, of Hartford, Connecticut, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Sierra. He also faces attempted murder charges for shooting Fuentes.

Dennis was extradited from New York to Vermont last year and appeared in court.

Lumbra is currently being held on bail and is due to appear in court on Thursday for arraignment.
