Texan motorcyclist killed in accident on I-24 in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The motorcyclist killed in a crash on Interstate 24 East Saturday night has been identified.

Metro Nashville Police said Matthew Arevalo, 22, of Texas, crashed on I-24 East between Bell Road and Haywood Lane around 6:30 p.m.

Arevalo was riding his Kawasaki motorcycle when he was apparently struck by an unknown white vehicle while attempting to maneuver between the vehicles, police said. The collision caused the motorcycle to hit a Mini Cooper in the adjacent lane, which came to a stop due to traffic.

According to police, Arevalo became separated from his motorcycle before it slid into a retaining wall and caught fire. He died at the scene. Police added that Arevalo was wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash.

The Mini Cooper remained at the scene of the accident and none of the occupants were injured in the accident. Police said there were no signs of impairment in either driver.
