Fraud alert! According to police, League City residents are being targeted with fake calls

HOUSTON (KIAH) – The League City Police Department wants to make the public aware of a scam that relies on scaremongering to target residents.

The city’s communications center reported it had received numerous calls from League City residents who said they were receiving messages and calls from people claiming to be “cartel members.”

League City police said the perpetrators are using fear-mongering to get people to send them money so the “cartel” won’t go after them or their family members. This is a scam!

Although the scammer knows your name and that of your family, they usually look for information in public records, according to the League City Police Department. Recipients of these scam calls are advised to simply hang up and block their numbers.

Remember to always be aware of your surroundings and contact LCPD if you observe any suspicious activity.
