Man rapes 7 tribal girls in MP and poses as teacher on phone

In a shocking series of incidents, at least seven tribal girls were raped between January and May this year by a man who posed as a teacher using a voice-changing app and lured the unsuspecting victims over the phone. The incidents took place in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh.

According to reports, the scammer’s modus operandi was to call the girls – many of them minors – disguised as a teacher. The scammer then recommended that they meet at a secluded location to discuss their scholarships. When the girls arrived, the man sexually assaulted them.

The crime came to light when one of the victims gathered the courage to report the incident to the police, who then filed a report. According to the investigation, the person used the same tactic in all seven cases.

Meanwhile, the Sidhi police have registered cases under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. The culprit has been arrested, but the police are still investigating whether the accused has targeted any other girls.

SP Sidhi, Ravindra Verma said Indian Times“So far, four cases have been registered against the accused under different sections. A girl went to him with a minor and the accused raped both of them. During interrogation, the accused confessed to raping seven girls. The details of the other two survivors are being verified. The number of victims could be higher. So far, all the survivors have reported rape. No survivor has reported gang rape so far. We have also arrested his two accomplices. The investigation is still ongoing.”

SP further stated that all the survivors are from caste communities. The state government offers scholarships to SC and ST students. The accused posed as a teacher who manages their scholarships, called her and committed the crime.
