Water transport in coastal areas has been stopped

As Cyclone Remal approaches Bangladesh, the government has decided to suspend all water transport services in coastal districts.

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) issued the order on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), Remal is expected to reach the coastal regions of Satkhira, Khulna and Chattogram by Sunday evening (May 26).

A high danger warning signal may be issued on Saturday evening. Parts of Satkhira and Cox’s Bazar may be significantly affected by the cyclonic storm, with a possible flood wave of seven to ten feet, heavy rains and landslides in the hilly areas of Chattogram.

Nearly 4,000 shelters have been set up in coastal areas, equipped with sufficient dry food. A total of 80,000 volunteers are ready to deal with the situation and all necessary preparations have been made.
