Atlanta Uber driver accused of raping passengers and breaking into her home

A rideshare driver was arrested in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs after police received a report that he had sexually assaulted a passenger he was dropping off.

Le’Myrious Monaye Dawson was booked on suspicion of theft, burglary, assault and rape, Sandy Springs police said in a news release. Police identified Dawson as an Uber driver in the release.

The arrest came on May 6, a day after police were notified of the alleged attack on one of Dawson’s passengers. WSB-TV was the first station to report Dawson’s arrest on Monday.

Police find items belonging to Dawson’s victim

According to police, Dawson is suspected of driving the victim home around 2:30 a.m. on May 5 before breaking into her apartment, breaking in and assaulting her.

Dawson was arrested about 12 hours later. After searching Dawson’s vehicle and residence, investigators reported recovering “several items belonging to the victim,” the release said.

Uber says Dawson is no longer a driver

In a statement to USA TODAY, an Uber spokesperson said Dawson is no longer a driver for the ride-sharing service.

“The reported details of what the victim went through are disturbing,” the statement said. “We have blocked the driver’s access to the platform and stand ready to assist law enforcement in their investigation as best we can.”
