Deadly Dumfries car theft suspect arrested in Virginia Beach

DUMFRIES, Virginia – Nearly a week after a fatal carjacking outside a Dumfries apartment complex, a man was arrested in Virginia Beach.

According to Prince William County police, 41-year-old Keith Anthony McBride is accused of stealing a car belonging to Jose Vasquez Galvan from outside the Oasis at Montclair Apartments on July 20.

During the carjacking, police say Galvan clung to the gold Lexus SUV as McBride backed up. McBride allegedly crashed into another car, backed up again and ran over Galvan. He then drove away, leaving Galvan behind. The 37-year-old later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Police released surveillance photos of the man they believe was responsible for the fatal carjacking on Friday and officially named him. McBride was arrested by Virginia Beach City Police six days later.

According to police, McBride and Galvan did not know each other before the fatal car theft.

McBride was charged with first-degree murder, hit-and-run and grand theft auto.
