Security guard dead after shooting at main event; man arrested

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The Main Event parking lot was packed with officers investigating the fatal shooting of a security guard Monday night.

Memphis police said they believe they know who was responsible for pulling the trigger.

But the big question now is: Why?

“We believe this incident resulted from a verbal altercation between two individuals who knew each other,” said MPD Major Christopher Parker.

“We just wanted to go out for a drink,” said regular Alexis Partee. “We come here every other weekend to have a drink, and I was just told there was a shooting going on here.”

Regulars at Main Event were stunned to learn that a man had been shot at this popular family gathering place.

“I’m used to being checked at the door. You turn around. You get frisked and your purses and bags are checked,” Partee said. “I can’t believe someone came in here with a gun.”

Memphis police said they responded to a call of a shooting here on Appling Farms Parkway at 7:15 p.m. and found a man dead from a gunshot wound.

Another man was arrested at the scene.

Police say they are unsure what exactly led to the argument and whether it took place at the main event or in the parking lot.

What they do know, however, is that it was a dispute between two men who are normally hired to keep people safe.

“Initial information indicates that the individuals involved were security forces,” Parker said.

While police are still investigating the incident, guests say they may think twice about where they go for a night of fun in the future.

“It’s very worrying, especially when you just want to have fun,” Partee said. “And even that’s not possible now.”

At this time, no charges have been filed.

Main Event was not immediately available for comment.
