Buffalo man pleads guilty to killing person at downtown club

A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to shooting and killing a person inside Club Marcella in February 2023.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to all charges for his role in a shooting at a popular downtown Buffalo nightclub.

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday that Sharief McBroom has pleaded guilty to shooting two people and killing one at Club Marcella in February 2023.

The victim, Jorge Garcia Leon, 21, died at the scene. Two other people were shot and taken to ECMC for treatment.

“This is a completely senseless and violent crime,” Acting District Attorney Mike Keane said.

“This defendant brought an illegal weapon into a nightclub and then deliberately fired multiple shots at the victims after a minor altercation. I take a strong stance on gun violence, which is why no sentence reduction was offered in this case. I hope that Jorge Garcia Leon’s family and the two survivors feel that justice has been served by this defendant pleading guilty to all charges.”

McBroom now faces a sentence of 50 years to life in prison when he is due back in court on September 9, 2024.
