NPA welcomes three life sentences for convicted rapist

JOHANNESBURG – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring perpetrators of gender-based violence are held to account.

She welcomed the verdict against Vukile Mpeka from Benoni in Ekurhuleni. He was sentenced to three life sentences for three counts of rape.

The court also added that his name would be entered on the national sex offender registry and that he would be declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Mfeka’s modus operandi was to offer his victims a ride, but instead take them to various locations in the Benoni area where he threatened and raped them.

“In court, Mfeza pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and, through his legal representative, asked the court to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence because he is caring for his two minor children.

“To make matters worse, prosecutor David Molokomme convicted Mfeza of very serious crimes and three of the complainants were minors at the time the crimes were committed. Furthermore, Mfeza has shown no signs of remorse,” said NPA spokesman Lumka Mahanjana.
