Buffalo man convicted of stealing building materials

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man was convicted by a jury of burglary and robbery Thursday afternoon, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Police say Sergio J. Brooks, 38, “knowingly and unlawfully entered a construction site with the intent to commit theft.”

On Thursday, February 16, Brooks entered a construction site on Best Street near Michigan Avenue in Buffalo. As he entered, a security surveillance system alerted Buffalo police, who were called to respond.

Once officers arrived, they located Brooks who then dropped two bags and began running.

Police found pipes, circuit breakers, valves, copper and other metal building materials inside the bags.

Brooks now faces up to seven years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, August 23, and is currently being held without bail pending sentencing.
