Yang sexual assault case to move forward | Crime and Courts

Misconduct allegations in one case lead to a second investigation that brings sexual assault charges against a now-former deputy for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

La Crosse, Wis. – (WXOW) – A preliminary hearing was held for Aaron Yang, the former Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy charged with illegal sexual activity with a minor. According to the criminal complaint, the incident occurred back in early 2023, when Yang allegedly sexually assaulted his 16 year old babysitter.

Yang allegedly had illegal sexual activity with a minor in his La Crosse apartment back in early 2023. The victim was 16 at the time.

At the preliminary hearing, La Crosse police investigator Andrew Rosenow testified that the victim told him how Yang assaulted her in one room and then took her to the bathroom and continued the assault.

“In her mind it was very aggressive and almost became her words,” Rosenow said. “I asked her to explain what aggressive and fast meant to her to which she stated it was very rough…she stated that he liked to ‘spit in my mouth’ and that he had choked her.”

Defense attorney Todd Schroeder then asked Rosenow whether the victim was threatened by anyone. He replied, “No sir.”

“And she didn’t say to you, ‘I didn’t consent to what was going on in the bathroom,’ right,” Schroeder said.

Rosenow answered, “That’s correct.”

“She didn’t say whether she did consent, she didn’t say whether she didn’t consent,” Schroeder stated.

Rosenow replied, “That’s correct.”

The case was found to have probable cause and will move to a trial. No date was yet set but will be determined sometime next week. Yang remains out of jail on a $2,000 signature bond.
