Lewes man arrested for car theft

LEWES, Delaware – A Lewes man was arrested for multiple car thefts.

Between July 8 and July 17, Delaware State Police investigated several thefts and similar trespassing incidents in the Angola and Lewes areas and learned that in each of the incidents, a man entered residences and stole money and valuables from unlocked vehicles. The suspect was identified as 31-year-old William Rodenbaugh, whom troopers knew as part of an ongoing investigation into thefts and attempted thefts from vehicles, also in the Lewes area.

At approximately 4:40 a.m. on Wednesday, a patrol officer on patrol in the Henlopen Landing neighborhood saw a man wearing a black hoodie and carrying a backpack walking through the neighborhood. The patrol officer recognized the man as Rodenbaugh, who reportedly initially ran away from him. Rodenbaugh was arrested after a short foot chase.

He was held at SCI on a $1,500 secured bond and charged with five counts of theft under $1,500 (the victim is over 62 years old) and third-degree burglary, nine counts of theft under $1,500, 12 counts of second-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal trespass and resisting law enforcement.
