Accusation: Passersby helped stop sexual assault and identify suspect

A man has been charged in connection with a sexual assault that occurred in Minneapolis on Saturday.

Marquis Jeffery McLoyd Jr., 27, is charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse.

According to a criminal complaint, Minneapolis police officers were called to a residence on Bryant Avenue South on Saturday night for a report of a sexual assault and found a woman wearing disheveled clothing and crying.

The woman told police that she was sitting outside the building waiting for her boyfriend when a stranger, later identified as McLoyd, pushed her to the ground, causing her to hit her head. She began to scream.

McLoyd began to sexually assault the woman, but passersby who heard the scream ran over and he ran away. He was found two blocks away and identified by passersby as the attacker.
