4 police officers suspended after teenager who escaped from police station found dead

Banda (UP): Four police officers have been suspended and a complaint has been filed against them after a man who escaped from a police station was later found dead on railway tracks in Chitrakoot district.

Anshu (27) was taken to Manikpur Police Station on Sunday for causing a ruckus in a drunken state during a Moharram procession, said police commissioner Arun Kumar Singh.

The police station’s CCTV footage showed that Anshu was taken there in an e-rickshaw at 7 pm on Sunday. Within nine minutes, he was seen running around outside, he said.

The SP said the police station personnel made no effort to locate the youth.

The teenager’s body was later found on the nearby railway tracks.

The suspended police officials include SHO Vinod Shukla, Superintendent of Police Veer Singh, constables Pramod Paswan and Ankit Rajput; an FIR has also been filed against them.
