Charges against 4 people after man’s remains found in house in Jackson Twsp., NJ – NBC10 Philadelphia

Police officials in the state of New Jersey have announced the arrest and charging of four people after the dismembered remains of a 56-year-old man were discovered in a Jackson Township home during an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old Seaside Heights woman.

According to the office of Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer, the charges follow the discovery of the remains of Kerry Rollason, 56, of Toms River, in a home on Toms River Road in Jackson Township on July 12, 2024.

A statement from Billhimer’s office said officials charged Elizabeth Mascarelli, 29, of Seaside Heights, with hindering apprehension, harboring a fugitive, desecration of human remains, weapons offenses and other crimes related to events that occurred on or about July 3, 2024 in Toms River and Jackson Township.

In addition, officials said Danielle Bolstad, 42, of Barnegat, Jared Krysiak, 34, of Brick Township, and Jarred Palumbo, 36, of Manchester, were each charged with hindering apprehension and desecration of human remains.

Investigation into the death of Gabriella Caroleo

According to prosecutors, the investigation began when officers were called to a home on Ravenwood Drive in Toms River on July 5, 2024, in search of 35-year-old Maxwell Johnston of Manchester Township.

Johnston, police officials said, was wanted for his alleged involvement in the June 27, 2024, murder of 25-year-old Gabriella Caroleo of Seaside Heights in Manchester Township.

When officers arrived at the address, they said they “successfully summoned” the people in the building and Bolstad, Krysiak and Palumbo left the house.

However, two other people – Johnston and Mascarelli – refused to leave the property, officials said.

After some negotiations, Mascarelli left the building and police later found Johnston dead on the property from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police officials said.

Investigators later discovered that Mascarelli had allowed Johnston to stay at the property despite knowing about Caroleo’s murder and his alleged involvement in her death.

In addition, officials said, investigators have found possible evidence of another murder that may have occurred on the Ravenwood Drive property on July 3, 2024.

Discovery of the remains of Kerry Rollason

As detectives continued to investigate Caroleo’s murder, they found evidence that a murder may have occurred at a home on Ravenwood Drive on or about July 3, 2024. Investigators later received information indicating that evidence of the Ravenwood Drive murder may be present at another property on Toms River Road in Jackson Township, New Jersey.

At the Jackson Township home, officers discovered “numerous body parts in black bags as well as other evidence related to the murder,” including a .22-caliber pistol, police officials said.

Authorities later said the remains were those of 56-year-old Kerry Rollason of Toms River, New Jersey.

Police allege that Rollason was the owner of the property on Ravenwood Drive where all of these individuals were found together on July 5, 2024.

An autopsy revealed that Rollason had been shot multiple times and suffered blunt force trauma before his body was dismembered and placed in plastic bags found on the property in Jackson Township.

“The crimes committed against Mr. Rollason are disturbing and upsetting,” Billhimer said in a statement. “I am grateful to the law enforcement officials who worked diligently to uncover these depraved and soulless crimes.”

Police believe Johnston is responsible for Rollason’s death and that the gun allegedly found with Rollason’s remains belonged to Mascarelli.

Additionally, law enforcement officials allege that Mascarelli, Bolstad and Krysiak helped Johnston dismember Rollason, and that Mascarelli, Bolstad, Krysiak and Palumbo helped Johnston dispose of the man’s body.

Three people – Mascarelli, Bolstad and Palumbo – were arrested and are in police custody.

However, Krysiak has not yet been caught and, according to the authorities, must be considered a fugitive defendant.

Law enforcement is asking anyone with information regarding these crimes to contact Detective Denis Mitchell of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027, extension 2476, or Detective James Carey of the Toms River Township Police Department at 732-349-0150.
