Man arrested for arson and murder of a woman

(KRON) – San Pablo police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and murder of a woman.

On July 2, San Pablo police officers were called to a fire in the 1900 block of 20th Street on San Pablo Creek. The Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ConFire) responded to the fire and found one person dead with “severe burns.” ConFire notified San Pablo police.

The victim is believed to be a 40-year-old woman. According to police, an autopsy revealed that the victim suffered blunt force trauma to the head. This could indicate that the death was a homicide.

San Pablo police identified 35-year-old William S. Ramirez as a person of interest in the murder case. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on charges of murder and arson. This type of warrant is issued before formal charges are filed.

Ramirez obtained a search warrant for the 1800 block of 23rd Street and was arrested Thursday. Police said the search produced evidence linking Ramirez to the crime.

Ramirez was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Center on the warrant for Ramey’s arrest. According to SPPD, formal charges are pending with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

The victim’s identity is with the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.

San Pablo police said there are no other suspects at this time, but the case is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact San Pablo police at (510) 215-3150.
