Death sentence: Court commutes death sentence in rape and murder case | Dehradun News

Dehradun: The Supreme Court has commuted the death sentence of a convict in a case of rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl to 20 years RI. The court also acquitted the second accused, Rajiv Kumar. The Haridwar Poso court had initially sentenced Ram Teerath Yadav (26) to death and imposed a fine of Rs 1.3 lakh on him. Co-accused Rajiv Kumar (in his 40s) received a five-year sentence and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. The case dates back to December 20, 2020, when the Haridwar police registered a case against unknown persons based on news reports of a missing girl. Investigation led to the discovery of the girl’s body in a house in Rishikul Colony, Haridwar. The house owner Rajiv and his nephew Yadav were arrested. The autopsy report confirmed that the girl was raped and strangled to death. Gaurav Talwar
