Teenager dies in collision between car and stolen scooter, Washington DC police say

WASHINGTON – Police are investigating after two teenagers were thrown from a scooter in an accident Thursday that left one dead.

Investigators say a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were riding a stolen Fly Wing 150cc scooter when an oncoming black vehicle struck the scooter as it made a left turn toward Halley Place, Southeast.

The car struck the scooter head-on, throwing both teens from the scooter, MPD said in a news release Friday. The 16-year-old, later identified as Da’Ron Ross, died in the crash. The other teen was taken to a nearby hospital for assistance and is expected to survive.

The car that struck the scooter drove away before police arrived. There is currently no information on vehicle or driver descriptions.
