Mother succumbs to injuries after hit-and-run, infant still in critical condition

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Hit and run on Nine Mile Road Friday in Henrico has now been classified as deadly.

On Tuesday, July 9, the adult female victim, identified as 25-year-old Howquana Kara Bugg of Henrico, died as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash that occurred on Friday, July 5, in the 5700 block of Nine Mile Road, according to Henrico County police.


Henrico police said the 21-month-old infant involved in the accident is still in serious condition at the hospital.

“The driver’s senseless departure from the scene of the accident has broken a family’s heart and now left a young child without a mother,” said Henrico Police Lt. Dave Turner. “We are asking anyone with information about who this driver may have been to come forward and provide answers as part of this investigation.”

According to police, investigators are following up on tips from the public.

The investigation revealed that the driver of the presumably silver sedan continued east toward Highland Springs.

Henrico Police have asked the public to be on the lookout in the area of ​​Newbridge Road and Highland Springs for a vehicle that may have severe damage to the passenger side.
