NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans, suffers damage from Hurricane Beryl

Hurricane Beyal made landfall early Monday morning in Houston. Damage was widespread across the city, leaving millions without power and facing flooding.

NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans, was damaged by the hurricane. As KPRC 2 Houston’s Gage Goulding reported, Beryl ripped the roof off the stadium. The result left several holes in the retractable roof.

“Like many of our neighbors in the Gulf Coast region, NRG Park suffered damage from Hurricane Beryl, including to the roof of NRG Stadium,” NRG Park CEO and Executive Director Ryan M. Walsh said in a statement.

“While we participate in these efforts, we are also assessing the extent of the damage to the NRG Park facilities. We look forward to welcoming our neighbors at NRG Park back once we resume normal operations.”

Beyal wasn’t the first hurricane to damage NRG Stadium. In September 2008, Hurricane Ike caused similar damage, forcing the Texans to reschedule their game against the Cincinnati Bengals in October. Houston cruised to a 35-6 victory over the Bengals in a Sunday night win.

The Texans will hold their home opener of the 2024 season in a Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears on September 15.
