6-week-old boy dies after being attacked by family dog ​​in crib, family says

A Tennessee mother and father are mourning the loss of their newborn son after the family dog ​​attacked the child in his sleep.

Mark Mansoor and Chloe Mansoor of Knoxville, Tennessee, spoke to local media this week to share their story about baby Ezra and warn others about the risks of leaving children alone with pets.

“You just think it would never happen to you. But it can happen to anyone, with any breed of dog, no matter how long you’ve had the dog,” Chloe told WBIR.

The family had two dogs in the house, but it was their husky that attacked without warning while the baby was sleeping in his crib. The first-time parents had the dog for eight years and said he had shown no signs of aggression before.

“Ezra meant everything. There are really no words for it except absolutely everything.”

The six-week-old boy was pronounced dead on Thursday, May 30.

“I didn’t realize how much support we had for him and how many people loved him until this happened,” she said. “Ezra was just sleeping in his crib – he wasn’t crying or anything. And then out of the blue she attacked.”

Chloe continued: “All the sleepless nights and the dirty diapers – looking back, I would take a million sleepless nights and dirty diapers and all the excitement, you would take it all in a second and you wouldn’t take a moment or a second for granted.”

The family said Ezra’s organs would be donated.

“Being his mother was the greatest honor and the best thing I’ve ever done,” Chloe said, according to ABC 7.

She described the attack as “unprovoked” and warned: “It could be any dog ​​at any time… regardless of the history.”

The grieving mother added that she enjoyed every moment with her little boy and urged others to do the same.

“Really, don’t take anything for granted, even if it’s just a moment when you’re upset or frustrated. All those little moments are still so amazing,” she said.

She also asked for prayers for this difficult time.

“Really pray for the whole family. Everyone loved him so much. I know everyone is grieving right now. We are grieving right now and it will be a lifelong process to process this.”

The family’s husky has since been removed from the house and placed in a local animal shelter.

“Young-Williams Animal Center is holding an adult dog following an incident in which an infant was reportedly injured in Knoxville on May 24, 2024. The dog is under a 10-day bite quarantine in accordance with state law,” the organization said in a statement.
