Mourning for 3 football stars killed in plane crash in Maryland – NBC4 Washington

Amid the rubble of the serious accident that killed three star football players from Prince George’s County, Maryland, lay a Minnesota Vikings cap.

On Monday we were reminded starkly that the dreams of three young men will never come true.

Only a few months left until 24-year-old Khyree Jackson makes his NFL debut with the Vikings.

“There’s so much to accomplish; there’s so much to believe in,” said Alec Lewis, who has covered the Vikings for The Athletic and written about Jackson. “I think it influenced a lot of people to believe positively in the direction Khyree was going to go.”

Jackson’s friends Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, were also talented football players. All three were state champions at Wise High School.

The community is mourning the loss of the young men as investigations into the cause of the accident early Saturday continue.

Their coach, Steve Rapp, described Jackson, Hazel and Lytton with one word: “legends.”

“Legends. All three in their own way. They are always revered on this program,” he said on Monday.

Maryland State Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash. They believe speed and alcohol may have been involved, but no charges have been filed.

According to police, the friends were traveling in a Dodge Charger on Route 4 when the driver of an Infiniti tried to change lanes and rammed the Charger.

The Prince George’s County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement Monday that it was still gathering information.

“We have only preliminary reports that do not include the BAC (blood alcohol concentration), which must be determined from medical records in this case. We have not yet received those. More information is needed on what exactly happened to gather sufficient evidence. An initial evidence review is scheduled for this week,” the office said in a statement.

Despite many unanswered questions, coach Rapp said he was sure of how big an influence his former players had on him.

“If I had anything else to say, I would just like to have the opportunity to tell all three of them that I love them,” he said.

Wise High School will hold a candlelight vigil in Upper Marlboro at 7 p.m. Friday to honor the three men.
