Alliance man faces multiple felony charges in car crash

An Alliance man is being investigated for vehicular manslaughter, manslaughter and driving under the influence after he caused a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 10th Street and Flack Avenue on Oct. 4 of last year. This is the fifth time the court will have to consider the vehicular manslaughter, manslaughter and driving under the influence charges.

According to a Nebraska State Patrol reconstruction investigation, a southbound vehicle driven by 35-year-old Jacob Stone was traveling at approximately 82 mph in a 35 mph zone. He collided with another vehicle traveling northbound that was attempting to make a left turn onto 10th Street. A State Patrol reconstruction specialist believes Stone would not have collided with the northbound vehicle if he had been obeying the speed limit. No one in the vehicle Stone collided with was injured.

Dagan Pierce, a passenger in Stone’s vehicle, suffered serious injuries. Pierce was taken to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. He was pronounced dead on October 22, 2023, with doctors describing it as a non-survivable brain injury.

Alliance Police Officer Tyler Sherlock reported seeing several empty Fireball whiskey bottles of various sizes in Stone’s vehicle and noticed that Stone gave off an alcoholic odor and that he had bloodshot eyes. Stone’s blood alcohol level was later determined to be over .15.
