Rape: Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping 15-year-old girl in Kendrapada | News from Bhubaneswar

Kendrapada: A 31-year-old man was sentenced to ten years imprisonment by an ad hoc special additional sessions court and fast-track special Pocso court in Kendrapada on Saturday for raping a 15-year-old girl after a DNA test proved that he had impregnated her in 2021. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict. Failure to pay would extend his sentence by one year. The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay a compensation of Rs 600,000 to the survivor. The girl gave birth to a daughter on August 29, 2021. The court on Saturday ruled that the accused is the biological father of the child based on a report from the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), Bhubaneswar. The convict had undergone a DNA test last year on the court’s instructions and his DNA matched that of the child. The survivor was in an advanced stage of pregnancy due to repeated sexual assault by the convict. The girl’s mother filed an FIR at the local police station on April 20, 2021, alleging that her minor daughter was raped multiple times by a neighbour due to which she became pregnant. He also threatened to kill her if she told anyone. As many as 16 witnesses, including the survivor, testified in the court.
