19-year-old arrested during operation in downtown Albuquerque

A 19-year-old man was arrested in downtown Albuquerque on Saturday during a police crackdown on armed minors in parking garages. The arrest came a week after a 17-year-old was shot and killed in another downtown parking garage. An Albuquerque police spokesperson said a vehicle occupied by two people was spotted by officers in the parking lot at 1 Central Avenue around 12:45 a.m. Saturday. After exiting the vehicle, a male passenger appeared to have a disagreement with another man. According to police, the passenger returned to the vehicle and grabbed an AR-15-style rifle. After hiding the weapon, he approached the man again and was heard speaking. The man walked away. According to police, detectives called more officers to the scene as people attempted to flee the parking garage. Officers then shouted commands into the vehicle where the passenger was holding the weapon. The driver of the vehicle failed to comply and continued driving, striking several cars, including a marked police car. According to police, officers located the vehicle at the corner of 3rd Street SW and Gold Avenue SW. The driver of the vehicle was arrested. He was identified as Steven Robles. No charges have been filed against the passenger of the vehicle and he is still on the run. According to court records, police recovered the AR-15 rifle and a handgun at the time of the arrest. Robles was charged with aggravated fleeing from a police officer and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

An Albuquerque police spokesman said a vehicle with two people inside was spotted by officers in the parking lot at 1 Central Avenue around 12:45 a.m. Saturday.

According to police, there appeared to be a disagreement between a male passenger and another man after he exited the vehicle.

According to police, the passenger returned to the vehicle and grabbed an AR-15 rifle. After hiding the weapon, the passenger approached the man again and exchanged a few words. The man walked away.

According to police, investigators called for additional officers to the scene as the people in the garage attempted to flee. Officers then yelled commands into the vehicle where the passenger was holding the gun. The driver of the vehicle did not comply and continued driving, ramming several cars, including a marked police car.

According to police, officers located the vehicle at the corner of 3rd Street SW and Gold Avenue SW. The driver of the vehicle was arrested. He was identified as Steven Robles. No charges have been filed against the passenger of the vehicle and he is still on the run.

According to court documents, police seized the AR-15-style rifle and a pistol at the time of the arrest.

Robles was charged with aggravated fleeing from a police officer and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
