Man accused of rape, released on bail, sets woman on fire; victim fights for his life

Hanumangarh, March 5: A 30-year-old woman is battling for her life after a man who allegedly raped her set her on fire. The incident took place in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district on Thursday. The woman suffered 70 percent burns and was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition. The accused, identified as Pradeep Bishnoi, has been released on bail. The woman had filed a complaint against Pradeep Bishnoi two years ago, alleging that he had raped her. The police filed a complaint and Bishnoi was arrested. He was released from prison after a court granted him bail. Yesterday, he is said to have jumped over a wall and set the complainant on fire. He fled the scene on a motorcycle. “We have arrested the accused named Pradeep Bishnoi. He is being questioned,” said Praful Kumar, Inspector General of Police of Bikaner, according to the Hindustan Times. CCTV footage shows the accused setting the woman on fire and then fleeing on a bicycle. The police are also investigating the woman’s complaint.

“The case is being investigated thoroughly from all angles,” said IGP Kumar. The victim is being treated at a hospital in Bikaner. She had been living with her maternal grandmother since her separation from her husband. She ran a beauty parlor.
