Survivor of Louisville skydiving accident goes home, leaves Frazier Rehab

A Louisville man left the hospital Saturday after a skydiving accident that could have been fatal. On Saturday, Phoenix McWilliams accomplished a goal he set for himself after the accident. He checked out of the UofL Health Frazier Rehab Institute and even turned in his discharge papers. Twenty days ago, McWilliams made the jump when he realized his parachute was tangled. He fell several hundred feet into a Hardin County field, where strangers helped him. The strangers later visited McWilliams at the UofL Health Frazier Rehab Institute. “Oh, I’m very ambitious, so this isn’t progress to me,” McWilliams said. “Unless I’m doing jumping jacks or something, it’s progress. I’m really ambitious and I like to keep pushing myself and everyone around me.” McWilliams will continue physical therapy for the next few months.

A Louisville man was on his way home from the hospital Saturday after a potentially fatal skydiving accident.

On Saturday, Phoenix McWilliams achieved a goal he had set for himself after the accident.

He walked out the door of the UofL Health Frazier Rehab Institute and even handed in his discharge papers.

Twenty days ago, McWilliams was attempting to jump when he realized his parachute was tangled.

He fell from a height of several thousand feet into a field in Hardin County, where strangers helped him.

The strangers later visited McWilliams at the UofL Health Frazier Rehab Institute.

“Oh, I’m very ambitious, so that’s not progress for me,” McWilliams said. “As long as I’m not doing jumping jacks or anything like that, it’s progress. I’m really ambitious and I like to keep pushing myself and everyone around me.”

McWilliams will continue physical therapy over the next few months.
