New UEFA rules for the 2024 European Championship

UEFA has tightened its rules for yellow and red cards for this year’s European Championship in Germany and declared that every player who is in the vicinity of the referee will receive a yellow card.

In future, only the captains of the individual teams will be allowed to approach the officials and discuss the decision.

Teams that have appointed their goalkeeper as captain may nominate a field player who can then address the referees.

How many games will a player miss if he receives a yellow card at Euro 2024?

Players who receive two yellow cards before the end of the quarter-finals must be suspended for one match.

In addition, they will miss another game if they receive four yellow cards before the quarter-finals.

This means that if a player receives two yellow cards throughout the group stage, the round of 16 and the quarter-finals, he will be suspended for the semi-finals if his team reaches the final round of the tournament.

However, yellow cards will be deleted after the end of the quarter-finals, meaning that no player will be forced to miss the final due to multiple yellow cards.

They would only miss the final if they received a red card in the semi-final.

Players who receive two yellow cards before the end of the quarter-finals must be suspended for one match and will therefore miss the semi-finals.

How many games will a player miss if he receives a red card at Euro 2024?

If a player receives a red card at any time during Euro 2024, he will automatically serve a one-match suspension.

However, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has the power to extend the period of a player’s suspension if it considers that the offence justifies more stringent measures than a one-match suspension.

If the referee shows a player a red card in the final, the suspension will be carried over to the next competitive match of that team.
