Police suddenly apply powers to HUGE area of ​​Manchester after serious attack

A man was seriously injured in an attack in Ardwick.

The victim was attacked in Haymarket Street at around 4pm today (Friday). Following the incident, police have introduced search powers across a large part of south and east Manchester.

The Section 60 order allows police to stop and search any person in a specified area and is in place until 10:30am tomorrow (July 6).

The area covered by the order extends from Moss Side and includes parts of Ardwick, Longsight, Gorton, Hulme and Audenshaw.

After the incident, police patrols were increased. However, no arrests were made.

Superintendent Phil Spurgeon of Greater Manchester Police said: “This Section 60 was approved following an incident in which someone was seriously injured. By using these additional powers, officers can prevent further violence.”

“The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing and investigators will work to gather all relevant information and take the necessary actions. We ask that anyone with information please contact us as we are in the early stages of our work.
