Norfolk man charged with sexually abusing 15-year-old | Select

A Norfolk man was jailed on $100,000 bail after police accused him of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Angelo Carreon, 21, was charged Thursday with first-degree sexual assault, a crime punishable by up to 50 years in prison.

On April 29, Norfolk police and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Child Abuse Hotline were notified of a report regarding a group chat on Snapchat, according to an affidavit. The report involved possible sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl by a man in his 20s.

A police officer spoke with the alleged victim, who said she had a relationship with Carreon. The girl initially denied that she and Carreon had been sexually involved.

On June 26, the Child Abuse Hotline received another report with similar concerns about the girl. That same day, an officer and a DHHS employee went to the girl’s home in Norfolk and found her and Carreon there.

The officer spoke with Carreon, who allegedly admitted that he and the girl had slept in the same bed in the house. He denied that there had been any sexual activity between the two and claimed that someone in Norfolk had started a rumor that he said was untrue.

The alleged victim, meanwhile, told the DHHS employee that she and Carreon had 30 to 40 sexual encounters since late April, the affidavit states. The girl told police that each encounter was consensual.

Carreon agreed to accompany an officer to the police station, where he was read his Miranda rights and agreed to answer questions. He allegedly admitted to having sex with the 15-year-old, but said it happened one to three times. When confronted with the girl’s allegations, Carreon admitted that his initial estimate may have been too low, according to police.

District Judge Michael Long signed an arrest warrant for Carreon on Thursday, and he was arrested shortly thereafter by Norfolk police.

Carreon must post 10% of $100,000, or $10,000, to be released from prison. He was scheduled to appear in Madison County court Tuesday afternoon.
