Traffic warning: “Road flood warning” issued for parts of the New Orleans area

NEW ORLEANS – The National Weather Service has issued a “road flood warning” until 7 a.m. for the areas surrounding Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes.

According to Payton Malone, meteorologist with WWL Louisiana, English Turn, Poydras, Belle Chasse and Violet parishes are currently affected as up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) of rain fell as the storms stalled and up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) of rain fell overnight.

The NWS said road flooding has been reported in these areas, so drivers are asked to use caution and use alternate routes to avoid flooded roads.
