Sudbury News: Manitoulin Police Say Suspended Driver Drove Stolen Vehicle to Police Station

A person has been charged after a suspect stole a vehicle in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township and then drove it to the Ontario Provincial Police to discuss another matter.

The Manitoulin OPP were notified on June 26 at approximately 6:00 p.m. that someone had stolen a vehicle on Castle Street in the community.

“Police attempted to locate the vehicle without success,” the OPP said in a press release on Thursday.

“Later that evening, the stolen vehicle pulled into the OPP detachment parking lot as the driver wanted to speak to police regarding another matter. The driver was subsequently arrested.”

The 47-year-old suspect from Spanish is charged with driving while suspended, violating probation, auto theft and possession of illegally obtained property valued at over $5,000.

The accused was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice Sudbury Bail Court sometime on Thursday.
