An East Orange man was killed Wednesday when a tree fell on him, the city said.

According to officials, Juan Jose Angeles Lopez was at a backyard barbecue with his family and began cleaning up when they saw the storm approaching, and then the tree fell.

Officials told News 12 New Jersey that Lopez’s wife is seven months pregnant. The city is collecting baby supplies for the family. A GoFundMe campaign has also been set up for the family.

On Wednesday evening, violent storms swept through New Jersey, leaving destruction throughout the state.

Another tree fell on a home on Longview Drive in Mountainside when a neighbor’s tree broke through the roof of the home. The home is cordoned off and access is blocked off pending further investigation.
