Mother of her child killed in Topeka declared dead

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office said the mother of a 9-year-old boy killed June 20 died at a local hospital.

The sheriff’s office said Shyla M. Goracke, 29, of Topeka died Monday at a local hospital. She was arrested in connection with the death of her 9-year-old son following an incident on Southwest Worwick Town Road near Sherwood Lake.


When officers arrived, they found the child with numerous wounds to his chest and neck. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

27 News found that the woman who owns the home where the incident occurred is also the owner of Mutt’Staches Mobile Grooming. A company car was seen in the driveway of the home where the child was found dead.

On Wednesday, a post was published on the store’s Facebook page saying it would be closing its business.

“It kills me to still have to go down this path, but I would never do something like this if I felt it wasn’t the only option I had. At the end of the day, I have to take care of my son and myself.”
