According to police, driver shoots at his vehicle in an incident of aggression behind the wheel

On Monday, June 17, at approximately 9:54 p.m., dispatchers sent Montclair Police to the area of ​​Washington and New Streets for a report of a driving aggression incident in which a vehicle had fired shots at another vehicle. When units arrived on scene, the vehicle that had fired shots fled the scene. Drivers reported a driving aggression incident between themselves and the driver of a white Tesla. The Tesla attempted unsuccessfully to pass the individuals in their vehicle. The Tesla continued to follow them until they stopped in the area of ​​New and Washington Streets. According to the driver, the driver of the Tesla stopped, exited his vehicle, and pulled out a handgun.

The offender stated that he attempted to outrun the Tesla driver and allegedly fired two shots at the victim’s vehicle. One shot hit the rear window and the second hit the rear bumper. Using a description of the vehicle provided by the victim, detectives were able to locate the suspect vehicle in Bloomfield, NJ. Further investigation by Montclair Detectives/Officers and Bloomfield Police led to the arrest of the 42-year-old Bloomfield man. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and transported to the Essex County Jail.

June 11, 2024 (Elmwood Avenue): A caller reported that he could not find his delivered package. He checked his security cameras and discovered that an unknown man, described as approximately 50 to 60 years old, bald, wearing an orange shirt with a logo on the chest and black pants, approached the home and took the package. The unknown man is seen on camera walking westbound on Elmwood Avenue. The package contained two Hewlett Packard ink cartridges with a total value of $100.

June 11, 2024 (North Fullerton Avenue): A U.S. Postal Service employee reported exiting his mail truck on North Fullerton Avenue while delivering mail. When he returned, he discovered an individual had stolen an unknown amount of mail. Surveillance in the area shows a man wearing gray shorts, a plain white shirt, long black hair, and a black beard. The man exited the U.S. Postal Service truck with a bucket full of mail/newspapers.

June 17, 2024 (Church Street): A member of Out Montclair reported that the Pride flag hanging from a pole at Church Street and Bloomfield Avenue/South Fullerton Avenue was removed by an unknown person(s). June 16, 2024 (Orange Road): A person reported making a delivery for Uber Eats in their white 2022 Toyota Camry. They stated that they parked their vehicle on the east side of Orange Road and approached a residence to make the delivery. They reported that a dark colored Kia pulled up next to their Camry. The passenger of the Kia got out and got into the person’s Camry. They ran back to their car and stood in front of it with their hands on the hood to keep the Camry from fleeing. The Camry accelerated and fled north, causing the man to be thrown from the hood of the car.

Both vehicles were last seen south on Orange Road. The Uber Eats driver described the passenger who stole the vehicle as a thin male teenager wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and a purple cloth mask. The Uber Eats driver was treated by Montclair EMS for cuts to his hand. The vehicle was found parked and unoccupied at the corner of South Orange Avenue and Bruce Street in Newark later that day.
