When do the Houston Texans start training camp?

We’re just a few months away from the first kickoff of the season. A moment where this young, seasoned team will be able to show if all the hype and conversations surrounding them during the offseason have been deserved. If guys like CJ Stroud and Will Anderson can graduate to the Rookie of the Year award winners they claimed and move on to awards like Most Valuable Player, Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Award.

However, the last stop before getting to the regular season is NFL training camp. After completing all the other major tasks of the offseason, this is the only thing left to check off before we move on to not only the regular season, but who is going to take that trip with the team?

Training camp will see nearly half of the current Houston Texans cut from the team, as coaches and general managers trim the roster down to just 53 core players. Some guys will remain on the practice squad, but who the final 53 will be will be determined by the end of training camp. At least the initial 53.

So when do Texas players report? You might think that this is a one-sided date, where each team reports at the same time. This is not the case, however, as most teams have different dates from each other. Beyond that, each team has a date by which rookies must report and a date by which veterans must report.

For the Texans, as you can see below, the rookies are expected on July 17, 2024. The veterans do not benefit from any special allowance this offseason, since they will have the same reporting date according to Tom Pelissero’s tweet.

The Texans join only the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans as teams with both veterans and rookies on the same day.

They are also the first NFL team to have a veteran player report. No other team has veterans present on or before July 17 other than the Texans. In fact, most other NFL teams won’t have the veterans on report for another week. It’s certainly an interesting strategy and one that we hope will pay off, without demanding too much physically from the players.
