One dead after SUV rolls over on I-5 south of Sea World Drive near Mission Bay

One person was killed Monday when an SUV crashed on Interstate 5 near Mission Bay.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the northbound Toyota 4Runner lost control and overturned just before 1 p.m. south of Sea World Drive.

It was not immediately clear whether the victim died at the scene of the accident or after being rescued and transported to a hospital.

The accident forced the closure of all northbound lanes on a stretch of I-5 north of Interstate 8 and caused significant congestion in the busy area, the CHP said.
