Gordon Ramsay used Father’s Day to lecture us all on cycling safety. “This week I unfortunately had a really bad accident,” he said in an Instagram video, “and it really shook me up. And honestly? I’m glad I’m here.” Ramsay then lifted up his shirt to reveal a bruise on his torso the same color as the chef’s signature beef wellington. The Hell’s Kitchen Star says the only thing that kept him from going to heaven (or dying) was his bike helmet. “I don’t care how short the ride is, I don’t care that these helmets cost money. They are essential.” Ramsay then wished all dads a happy “Them Day” and reminded us all that an important part of fatherhood is not dying from preventable accidents. L&M Hospital, where Ramsay was treated, said in a statement that “helmets reduce the risk of head injury by 48%, severe head injury by 60%, traumatic brain injury by 53%, facial injury by 23% and the overall number of cyclists killed or seriously injured by 34%.”
