Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay “lucky” after bicycle accident

CONNECTICUT, USA — Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is recovering from his “very bad” bike accident and is urging everyone to wear a helmet.

In a video posted online on Saturday, Ramsay stressed the importance of bicycle safety – especially helmets – and said he was lucky to be alive after the Connecticut bicycle accident.

“You have to wear a helmet, no matter how short the ride,” Ramsay said, showing the camera his bruised ribs as if he were apparently on the set of Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen.”

Seasons 23 and 24 of the cooking competition show are being filmed at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. A Fox representative said production is ongoing.

“I’m glad to be standing here. I’m in pain, it’s been a brutal week and I’m somehow getting through it,” Ramsay continued, before wishing the fathers a happy Father’s Day.

In the video, he also thanked the staff at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in Connecticut for his treatment.

“Bicycle accidents are a common injury we see in the emergency department, especially during the summer months when people are more active. Wearing the proper equipment, especially a helmet, can significantly reduce the likelihood of serious injury,” the hospital said in a prepared statement on Saturday.
