Mycah Hatfield – ABC13 Houston

Mycah Hatfield began reporting for ABC13 in June 2019.

She is so happy to be back in Houston! Mycah grew up in the Spring area but has spent almost the last decade outside of Texas.

Previously, she reported from Tulsa, Oklahoma and Lafayette, Louisiana. Mycah has covered countless natural disasters, the Baton Rouge police shooting, the Grande Theater shooting and the historic nine-day Oklahoma teachers’ walkout.

She was part of the Emmy Award-winning coverage of the August 2017 tornado in Oklahoma and won top prizes from the Associated Press and the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists for a story highlighting the struggle of athletes against opioids. Mycah also received the Golden Heart Award from the Louisiana Humane Society for his work on animal cruelty cases. Most recently, she received the Oklahoma Governor’s Disability Employment Excellence Award for a series of stories highlighting adults with disabilities in her area.

Reporting is a passion for Mycah. She likes to be in the know and the first to know. Most importantly, she loves having the opportunity to meet people in her community that she might not otherwise come across.

She is a proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma and a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

Even though she was away from the great state of Texas for years, she always made it a point to come back for the Houston Rodeo. Rodeo season is his favorite time of year.

In his free time, Mycah loves watching Sooner Football, lounging by the pool, and hosting dinner parties.

Mycah would love to hear from you, whether it’s a simple “hello” or a story idea.
