1 dead and 5 injured after shooting near Compton College

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, five people were shot outside Compton College on Friday evening.

Officials said it happened around 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of East Greenleaf Boulevard and South Mayo Avenue. The shooting was not college-related, the sheriff’s department said. The scene, which appeared to be a backyard party, was cordoned off with crime scene tape.

At least six people were shot, one of whom died, officials said. The Compton Fire Department said three of the victims were women and two others were men. One of the men died on the way to the hospital.

The CFD also requested assistance from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A description of the suspect or a motive were not immediately available.
