Knight’s cell phone pinged a cell tower in Alturas on June 1, so Modoc County Sheriff’s officials began searching the area on Monday, June 3, with assistance from the San Ramon Police Department, the California Highway Patrol and members of Knight’s family.

Around 6 p.m. that evening, a rider called the sheriff’s communications center to report a body found in the river south of Alturas. Officers positively identified the remains as Knight’s. Knight’s motorcycle was also found in the water nearby. His family has been notified.
