How I was raped, impregnated and forced to Kwara – Bayelsa woman

A young woman, Tina Wilson, who was caught loitering in Kulende area of ​​Ilorin, has recounted how she was raped in Bayelsa State, which led to pregnancy and her forced relocation to Kwara State.

Tina told a delegation from the Ministry of Social Development that she was raped in her community in Mbiama LGA of Bayelsa State a few months ago before embarking on an indefinite stay that took her to Kwara State.

She said: “I was raped in Bayelsa. Since then, I decided to leave the state. I just walked and took taxis from place to place. Sometimes I begged for alms for the fare until I ended up here in Kwara.”

Tina was grateful for the care and love shown to her by the Kwara State government and pleaded not to be sent back to her state.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Mrs. Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, reiterated the government’s commitment to timely intervention and support to all vulnerable groups to strengthen social health and self-development.

Ms. Afolashade appreciated the timely response of the people to the matter, but stressed that “the Ministry is legally empowered to receive, evacuate, shelter and take necessary measures against vulnerable and needy people, regardless of their status or social class.”
