Dead Timber State Recreation Area receives restoration grant following damage from 2019 floods

Thanks to more than $600,000 in grants from Nebraska organizations, changes are coming to Dead Timber State Recreation Area next year.

Since flooding devastated the Dead Timber SRA in March 2019, the basic campgrounds in the 200-acre park north of Scribner have been out of service.

Thanks to grants from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development and the Fremont-Dodge County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the campgrounds can be moved out of the flood plain next year.

Michelle Stryker of Nebraska Game and Parks said the funds will also be used to build a new restroom and rebuild a WPA-era stone building that was damaged by the floods.
