Investigations into robbery at jewelry store in Newark underway

NEWARK – Authorities say an investigation is ongoing into a Newark jewelry store robbery that took place in broad daylight.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bhindi Jewelers, 5944 Newpark Mall Road, the Newark Police Department said in a news release.

At least a dozen suspects “violently entered the store, smashed glass display cases and stole a considerable amount of jewelry,” police said. The exact value of the stolen items has not yet been determined.

During the robbery, several vehicles with getaway drivers were waiting, police said.

“The entire incident occurred within minutes,” police said.

No injuries were reported.

Police did not announce any arrests or release descriptions of the suspects on Thursday.
