Man arrested in Houston area for using dead woman’s bank card

HOUSTON (KIAH) – A man who allegedly created fraudulent nonprofit organizations to obtain funds from members of Houston’s Jewish community has been arrested and charged with numerous charges, including credit card abuse.

Dustin Mitchell, 43, is charged with 3 counts of fraud. He is also accused of using a deceased woman’s credit card. Police are now searching for other possible victims.

Criminal charges include: illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, credit/debit fraud and fraudulent use of identity information, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

CW39 also learned that Mitchell is no stranger to law enforcement. In 2012, he served 4 months in prison, after posing as an attorney and representing clients in St. Louis, Missouri. He eventually pleaded guilty to a theft charge related to the $1,000 fee he accepted.
