Murder investigation underway after man and woman found dead in quiet village

A murder investigation has been launched after a woman and a young man were found dead in a house near Bishop’s Stortford.

Emergency services were called to an address on Cambridge Road in Ugley on Tuesday evening following reports that two people had been seriously injured at a location.

Officers found a woman in her 50s and a man in his 20s with injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 63-year-old man from Ugley was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Lydia George, of Essex Police, said: “My thoughts are with the families of the two people killed in Ugley last night. This will be an unimaginably difficult time for them and they are being supported by specialist officers.

“I know this incident is causing concern among the local community but I want to reassure them that we have a team of experienced detectives and staff conducting the investigation.

“At this time, we do not believe that this incident poses a threat to the public, nor are we seeking any other individuals in connection with this incident.”
