Shooting in Newark’s South Ward under investigation

Newark police have launched an investigation following a shooting in the city’s South Ward on Sunday evening.fitness

Triggered by a ShotSpotter alert around 9:10 p.m. near Scheerer Avenue, officers were quickly dispatched to the scene.

When police arrived, they discovered bullet casings but could not find any victims.

During the investigation, a male suspect was arrested in the 100 block of Renner Avenue after he was seen running from the scene shortly after the shooting.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the arrested man is the shooter.

The Newark Shooting Response Unit has been called in to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear as investigators continue to gather evidence and information to determine the circumstances of the incident.
