Woman arrested for kidnapping, car theft after shooting at Columbia mall | State and national news

Units from several emergency services responded to a shooting incident Friday shortly before 5:30 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot on Conley Road.

Police arrested Nevels-McKee and an adult male at the scene. In a later news release the same day, Columbia police announced that only Nevels-McKee remained in custody.

A Columbia police spokesman said there were two casualties but no injuries were reported.

Vincent Rogers was shopping at Walmart at the time and was about to enter the store when he described the shooting. He said, “And then shortly after that, the white car pulled up just as I was walking by, and the woman screamed, ‘Get out of the car, get out of the car, I’m going to shoot you!’ And she shot the car a couple of times.”

Another customer told KOMU that eight people in the store were told over the intercom to seek shelter inside the building. After about 20 minutes, they were told it was safe to leave the building.

The Walmart was reopened shortly after the police arrived.

The investigation is still ongoing.
